Terence 'Terry' Fenwick Marely Naughton QC, [Queen’s Counsel, Judge of the District Court of NSW [B:28 Jan 1941-D: 15 Aug 2016], see last photo in this item gallery for an imageof Terry in adulthood, was born in Drummoyne, Sydney. A highly respected Q.C, Naughton was also an avid photographer known for having a strong interest in Art and Architecture. Naughton used a manual Linhoff 4×5 format camera to capture images of small towns with beautiful old courthouses in regional NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. Naughton had an exhibition at the SH Ervin Gallery ‘Places of Judgment New South Wales’ which was critically acclaimed. Iconic Australian photographer Max Dupain reviewed the exhibition in the Sydney Morning Herald and described the chronicle of images as ‘immaculate and beautiful’. The Art Gallery of New South Wales holds works by Naughton.
He served as a director of the Australian Centre for Photography which exposed him to the work of many Australian photographers. His personal collection includes photographs of many Australian photographers including Max Dupain, Harold Cazneaux, Murray Fredericks and Gordon Undy, to name a few.
