Barry Willoughby’s passions crossed classical music & opera to books & gourmet cooking to being a lover of art.
As a young man he followed these passions through his work as a window dresser in some of Sydney’s most upmarket stores and later through his work in some of the city’s most well-known book shops, Angus & Robertson, Graham’s & Abbeys, all Sydney institutions.
It was Barry’s close relationship with the acclaimed artist, Salvatore Zofrea, which so influenced his art collection. For sale by Lamtiques were also photographic works by Shawn Connell of Salvatore Zofrea – Barry was aware of all aspects of his practice, from early oils to woodcut trial proofs, his close relationship is seen through the many personal inscriptions from the artist and Shawn Connell.
Barry was also a philanthropist, giving his extensive glass collection to Sydney’s Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences and the proceeds of the sale of his art collection [of which this is one example] to benefit Royal North Shore Hospital’s Kolling Foundation.
