Mae Murray [1889–1965] [USA] - a 12.5cm x 17.5cm Hollywood Fan Photograph.

She began her career as a dancer with Veron Castle in 1906, entering films in the 1916 film: 'To Have and to Hold' with Wallace Reid. 'The Merry Widow' of 1925 was the film for whihc she received most acclaim...she did not transition to talkies, after one attempt whihc was a huge flop...she quit MGM on her then husbands advice and it went down hill from there. She was one of the few Zeigfield girls to transition from the stage to film.

When these are described as 'signed', it is on the negative, these signatures are facimilies done on the film plate and not on the photo after it is printed by the artist themselves.

This item is an original period [1930's] photograph not a reproduction or modern reprint.

These smaller format photos were sent to Movie Fans worldwide in response to fan letters or photo requests. Some Artists, but not all, had these small photos stamped with "Kindly Acknowledge Receipt of Photo. Upon Receipt of 25c to cover Expense, I will send you a Large 8x10 Portrait' - which is interesting.

Most of these Fan photos were actually small versions of the artist 8x10 Studio Photo portraits.
